2011 Peter S. Thacher Award Recipient: Eileen B. Allen
Eileen Barber Allen is the GIS Coordinator for the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at the State University of New York – Plattsburgh. A significant amount of Eileen’s work has been devoted to producing the detailed wetlands and watersheds digital (GIS) databases for the NYS Adirondack Park Agency (APA), a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency to the APA. Eileen has also worked on a number of other grants as the principal investigator or as technical support with both geologists and ecologists. All of these projects have been springboards for educational opportunities for SUNY-Plattsburgh students. Education has been a high priority for Eileen. Her current teaching responsibilities are Introduction to GIS, Principles of Remote Sensing, and Advanced Remote Sensing.
