| Abstract: | Once we make the mental leap through that boundary between "outside" and "inside", we realize that the world is very similar on both sides of the wall. We need to solve the same business problems related to asset management and resource planning both inside and outside the building, and the same GIS tools apply. This represents a huge opportunity to expand the value of GIS within your organization and to new markets. Matt Davis, Regional Office Manager and advisor on ESRI's FM-related strategies, will outline why GIS is being considered a key component of information systems being developed to support the entire lifecycle of a facility, from initial planning and design through operations and maintenance. Matt will discuss the value that GIS can represent at all phases of that lifecycle and show how ESRI is advancing on some exciting new capabilities to help us all realize those benefits. Brent Jones, ESRI's market manager for survey and civil engineering, will focus on the survey and design phases of the lifecycle. ESRI and its' business partners are creating solutions that will improve the flow of information from and to the GIS database. Once there, it can be enriched and maintained throughout the lifecycle. Who knew this familiar mantra would apply to GIS: "Build it once, and use it many times". Terry Martin, senior account manager in ESRI's defense infrastructure and environment team, notes that energy management and carbon footprint management is becoming a much bigger driver for doing asset management with GIS. He will use the Air Force as an example, which anticipates that its energy-related expenditure may double next year, and show how GIS can be part of a solution that applies to your organization as well. |
