USDA-NRCS in Maine recently submitted its Watershed Boundary Dataset for certification and inclusion in the national map. The use of the geodatabase model with topology rules significantly increased production efficiency, reduced editing time, and facilitated the integration of efforts by multiple editors. Accuracy and interpretation of watershed divides were enhanced in a GIS environment that employed DEMs, hillshades, contours, bathymetry, DRGs, and NHD24 in a layered scheme of multiple transparencies. A summary of the process, lessons learned, skills developed, and plans for future maintenance and enhancement of the dataset will be presented. |
