As GIS professionals, we are highly dependent on utilizing data that is created and maintained by other external organizations. Despite the internet, most still rely on 'older' data sharing methods such as 'sneaker net' and downloading entire data sets for local use. This presentation will provide an overview of the vast benefits of consuming data using web services, and will outline the various options available to the ESRI user community and will demonstrate how to utilize these services in ArcView. An overview of proprietary web services such as ArcGIS On-line, ArcGIS Server and ArcIMS will be presented and contrasted with open web services such as WMS, WFS and WCS. |
