Abstract: The concept of a GIS m'ashup' has been a hot catch-phrase in the recent years with regards to web and server-based GIS applications. There is a lot of buzz about this concept, and it simply means to combine, integrate, or 'mashup', multiple GIS's of any type. One such mashup involves the use of a well know user friendly front-end web mapping interface (i.e., Google Maps) with a powerful and robust GIS server technology (ESRI ArcGIS Server 9.2) for data processing and analysis. The combination of these two technologies makes for a robust and state-of-the-art e-commerce web site. The mashup discussed in this presentation involves an e-commerce mapping web site whereby the user can purchase: a) GIS data and/or b) customized published maps in PDF format. Upon purchase, through AJAX enabled web controls, an order is placed to the ArcGIS server to generate and package or GIS data, and/or produce and export maps for the specified area. The processing on the ArcGIS server is done through a combination of published geoprocessing and mapping ArcGIS Server services, accessed through .NET web services. The presentation will highlight the overall architecture of this system, and the relative simplicity of integrating the two technologies.
