| Abstract: | COLLADA or the COLLAborative Design Activity is an open standard XML schema intended for exchanging data between various graphic software applications. Initially created by Sony Corporation in support of its gaming activity, COLLADA has expanded across the game industry and into the GIS world with the initial import support of COLLADA based features by ESRI with the release of ArcGIS 9.3. Full import and export of COLLADA is supported by SketchUp Pro 7.0, the software employed to make ESRI multipatch features and 3D symbols. This presentation will offer a brief history of the COLLADA development, but will concentrate primarily on the opportunities this standard brings to 3D GIS users. Live examples will be included to fully illustrate COLLADA and how it functions with ArcGIS. |
