| Abstract: |
The transition from GIS as a separate activity to its integration into specific operations, workflows, and management functions is well underway. This presentation will show how GIS has been fully integrated into several distinct municipal functions: (1) helping to better manage public assets, such as cemeteries; (2) improving municipal department access to key documents, drawings and information through a geographically-enabled electronic file cabinet; and (3) automating environmental conservation oversight and regulatory reporting for wetlands. The presentation will also discuss the more general topics of: which types of municipal functions are the best candidates for 'geo-enabling', what are the requirements, and what types of benefits can be expected. |
