Baystate Reference Laboratories (BRL), the clinical diagnostic laboratory service of Baystate Medical Center, provides courier service to over 300 healthcare offices and patient service centers throughout central and western Massachusetts. Courier services are organized into 35 routes that pickup specimens on a scheduled, ‘Stat’ and per call basis seven days a week. BRL manages it courier operation essentially manually with paper route sheets, specimen collection logs and vehicle trip reports. In this presentation we will discuss the development of a logistics system that integrates route management, vehicle tracking, dispatch services and specimen logging. |
