Worcester Sanitary Sewer GIS - Right Under Your Feet
Abstract: Apex Geospatial Data Services, LLC, the City of Worcester’s Sewer Department, and the City’s GIS Department have just completed the data conversion of the City’s sanitary sewer maps and records. This is one of the exciting local projects for 2000-2001. A live demo of the City of Worcester’s Sanitary Sewer GIS data will be shown “right under your feet” in Worcester, Mass. The challenges of the data conversion will be discussed including the mixing of different source materials to produce the most current information (existing Sewer Maps, As-built records, and existing ARC/Info sewer rehabilitation data), linking legacy databases for historical information of sanitary sewer manholes, and planned uses of the new data by the City’s departments to manage their infrastructure and assets.
