This presentation will deal with the practical uses for GIS mapping to the Law Enforcement officer on the street. Although Crime Mapping has been the hot topic on the law enforcement circles, how can it be used to assist the police officer on the street to better do their jobs?

Municipalities across the region are at various stages of implementing GIS projects relating to engineering, planning, zoning and general infrastructure of communities. Police can tap into these vast resources of information to power programs such as BeatBook, a free NIJ funded program, and bring practical mapping to the officer in the field. This enables the Officer to instantly draw GIS information for Emergency management, Investigative aid and for traditional crime mapping.

Discussed will be the sources of information, their uses and the lessons learned implementing the BeatBook program in the Town of Glastonbury.
