GIS Database Maintenance in Brookline, MA

Maintaining accurate, up to date and reliable GIS data is critical in a successful operational GIS. Data maintenance includes updates of, additions to, deletions from and conversion of the database .In order to maintain the GIS data integrity, these changes have to be performed in a very careful manner.

The Town of Brookline, with a population of over 57.000 people, 6.82 square miles of area, and over 100 layers of GIS data, has invested a large amount of staff time and resources to develop this GIS database. This paper focuses on the procedures established to maintain Brookline GIS database, tracking process, tools used to facilitate this process and the benefits achieved by implementing GIS data maintenance procedures .
