| Abstract: | In supporting the Patrick administration's strong interest in developing clean renewable energy sources, the Massachusetts Office of Geographic and Environmental Information (MassGIS) within the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) has taken an active role in the mapping of wind energy site candidates across the Commonwealth. For this project, a GIS analysis was conducted for Barnstable County… an area comprised of 15 municipalities that collectively represent the region commonly known as Cape Cod. Using a combination of environmental and physical factors that affect wind development potential, a series of modeled scenarios were generated for both mid-scale (600kw) and utility-scale (1.65MW) turbines. These scenarios provide the locations and estimated Megawatt output of candidate sites for a set of uniquely defined constraints. The results of this analysis provide a benchmark that will assist in crafting the most efficient and productive clean energy policies for the region. |
