| Abstract: |
This presentation will cover a detailed methodology and the chronological workings out of a fully functional Parks and Open Space GIS inventory project and webapp. It will outline 1) the condition of the initial data sources, 2) various challenges encountered while recovering and merging the data, 3) steps taken to review the data for accuracy and completeness, and 4) the plan for maintaining and using the data, which includes a web-based mapping component available to both internal power users and externally for public consumption. The software involved in this project includes Microsoft Access, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcSDE, SQL Server 2005, and ArcGIS Server. Data layers include trees, facilities, signage, utilities, equipment, structures, fields, paved areas, and more. A reporting system will be integrated that derives total counts, square footage, and linear feet of applicable data types. Attribution includes conditions, manufacturer information, location and other descriptive information for maintaining the town's existing property. This presentation will benefit any municipality desiring to undertake similar GIS projects that begin with a non-spatial database and wish to construct a web-based GIS application. |
