Abstract: The Habitat Priority Planner is a tool developed by the NOAA Coastal Services Center for use in ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3. The purpose of HPP is to provide a wizard-based system for identifying conservation priority areas in a given geographic area. The tool can also be used for any GIS situation in which blocks similar features (i.e. landcover types, co-occurrence map, parcels) need to be prioritized based on their inherent characteristics (size, connnectivity, perimeter to area ratio) as well as any other relevant supporting GIS data (i.e. nesting sites, power lines, wetlands, road density). This presentation will cover the basics of the Habitat Priority Planner as well as its potential for application to prioritizing natural resource features in a defined area.
