Abstract: Employing GIS in a facilities management solution provides distinct advantages over non-geospatially-enabled systems. Interior facilities and infrastructure information can be understood in its geographic context and queried according to both logical and spatial attributes. Additionally, existing management and workflow structures of the CAFM system may be utilized in support of some exterior features such as equipment assets. This session describes an implementation of GIS in conjunction with a well-established CAFM software solution, explaining the rationale and some relative strengths and weaknesses of the approach taken, then demonstrates workflow for importing AutoCAD facilities drawings into a GIS and walks through example use cases supported by the system.
