Abstract: As our legacy of GIS data grows, we're encountering a growing number of challenges when attempting to compare historical geospatial data with the results of more recent collection efforts Data collection techniques, temporal analysis techniques, and spatial data format issues are all worth pondering when addressing change-over-time analyses, such as coastline change, changes in the distribution and areal extent of eelgrass beds, forest type transitions, and land-cover change. The presenters will address individual case studies that illustrate how they approached these challenges and how they attempted to create solutions, if any. An audience-driven discussion of how to build and document future mapping projects that lend themselves more easily to temporal analysis will be promoted during this panel session.
