The Town of Hopkinton, Rhode Island has recently implemented a Pavement Management System for managing the maintenance and repair of the Town's roads. The system provides data on current conditions, historical maintenance, and costs of repairs. Integration with GIS allows town staff to visualize conditions and work plans. Prior to the PMS, town staff relied on memory and disorganized spreadsheets to manage the maintenance records. The new system allows the Town to evaluate the condition of the roads based on an objective checklist and plan a maintenance schedule based on funding and needs. The challenges of data collection and maintenance will be discussed. A demo of the PMS will be shown, as well as GIS components of the system. |
