| Abstract: | "Various Town departments and Boards are engaged in the task of approving development proposals of various activities including subdivisions, zone change amendments, expansion of municipal recreation facilities, and making recommendations to the Town Council regarding these proposals. Until recently, the Town's GIS was used extensively in providing 2D analytical analyses and cartographic products for these various boards and departments to assist in visualizing these proposals in their decision making process. Recently, the Town's GIS has developed the capability of creating 3D models using Sketch-Up software and bringing them into ArcMap to create 3D visualizations of certain of these developmental proposals, including a proposed dog park and new community gym. These 3D representations have proven to be quite effective in providing a much more realistic picture of the proposal. The Town's new high resolution color orthophotos have provided an effective backdrop in this visualization process. This presentation will provide an overview of the process in creating 3D models, bringing them into ArcMap and ArcScene, and different ways of presenting this information to Town officials and the public." |
