Abstract: Fuss & O'Neill Technologies with the cooperation of the City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, recently completed the digital conversion of the City's sanitary sewer maps for the ninety-five miles of sanitary sewers. Gone are the days where town employees fumble around for hours locating the necessary maps and diagrams needed to repair a broken main. From Valve Isolation to Network Analysis, the Digital Utility Network can offer extensive functionality to a department of public works that encounters everyday issues. A demo of the City of Woonsocket's Sanitary Sewer network will be shown. The challenges of the data conversion for the 550 paper maps will be discussed. The presentation will include information on the use of the ESRI geodatabase model, SDE for simultaneous editing, digital orthophotos, the use of hyperlinks, and a unique network creation tool which made for a successful project and useful tool for the city.
