Abstract: Community activism has lead directly to the establishment of the Community LOOW GIS Database, a meeting place of pertinent data concerning the former federal TNT manufacturing facility and current Department of Defense Area of Concern commonly referred to as LOOW (Lake Ontario Ordinance Works).

Ecology and Environment, Inc., working for Niagara County, NY, has designed a geodatabase containing over 400,000 sampling records taken from over 2,000 monitoring well locations on the LOOW site, and is publishing this data on the internet via the newest ESRI ArcServer platform.

This presentation will discuss the events leading to the creation of the Community LOOW GIS database, its content and web server functionality, and its future role as a tool for fostering public participation and academic research in the local community.
