To a municipality, the address represents the point of contact for its "customers" and is probably the most important piece of information in its databases'. As important as this would seem, many municipalities do a poor job of handling address information. The Town of Weymouth Massachusetts (pop 53988) like other municipalities has struggled with address information stored in many disparate databases throughout several town departments. This presentation discusses how the town identified address issues, created a central repository for address information, disseminated address information to each department, and worked, through the Census LUCA (Local Update of Census Addresses) program, to facilitate a more accurate population count for the upcoming 2010 Census. |
