Title: The Albertine Rift
Authors: Greg Fiske
Poster: The Albertine Rift poster details the Protected Area Watch for the Albertine Rift (PAWAR) project at the Woods Hole Research Center in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The goal of the PAWAR project is to increase the flow of remote sensing and GIS related information into conservation management among all levels of civil society. It is hoped that this will improve natural resources management, distribute spatial information to support conservation policy analysis, and encourage a dialogue across a broad user community in the region. The Woods Hole Research Center provides technical Remote Sensing and GIS training to support the long-term use of spatial data and analysis tools in the Albertine Rift region. The primary audience is African technicians, decision-makers and donor agencies involved in environmental planning and natural resources management.

On the poster's main map, the background raster information is an amalgamation of Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) products. The vector information is a collection of data shared by correspondents working on location in the Albertine region of Africa. This estimation of protected area boundaries in the Albertine region is the best yet available in digital form. Consequently, it is also a work in progress.
