| Abstract: |
The National Map (TNM), developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), is compiled from many data sources and web map services. In cooperation with the USGS, the New Jersey Office of Information Technology, Office of GIS (OGIS) is emerging as a significant contributing partner to TNM. In 2006, OGIS entered into an agreement with the USGS to develop, host, and maintain Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant web map services for statewide framework datasets including Elevation, Hydrography, Transportation, Boundaries, and Land Use/Landcover. In addition to OGIS, state agencies involved in this effort include the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). With 2006 National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Cooperative Agreement Program (CAP) funding, OGIS has been able to increase the State’s enterprise data storage infrastructure and to expand its existing web-based operational capabilities and service-oriented architecture (SOA). The goal of this presentation is to review how USGS and OGIS have leveraged investments in enterprise geospatial data and web mapping technologies in support of the NSDI and The National Map. |
