Abstract: As part of Martha's Vineyard's multi-year planning effort, the Island Plan, this project involves visually demonstrating to the public the pattern and pace of past development on the Island and how our development choices today will determine the Vineyard of tomorrow. The initial step requires showing just how much the rate of development has increased over the last several decades and how it is spatially distributed. The second step involves displaying where on the Island future development is likely to occur given the existing framework regulation. The third step is creating 3D models depicting alternative neighborhood development scenarios for those areas most susceptible to change. This presentation will describe the application of the ArcMap 9.2 Animation Tool, the Buildout Wizard within CommunityViz, and the use of SketchUp & ESRI's 3D Analyst as they were utilized in this project.
